About the Pro-Ject T1 EVO
The first step into vinyl is choosing an entry turntable. The market is crowded, but the Pro-Ject T1 EVO remains one of the most recommended entry models. From Austria's Pro-Ject, the T1 EVO sits below the Debut line — yet its build quality and materials are far from basic.
Design and build
The T1 EVO's standout feature is its CNC-machined wooden plinth — zero plastic parts, internally filled to eliminate cavity resonance, and virtually free of extra vibration during playback.
The tonearm is a one-piece 8.6-inch aluminum design, factory-aligned with tracking force pre-set to 17.5mN, paired with an Ortofon OM10 cartridge. Plug in, connect, drop a record — no adjustment needed.
Speed switching (33/45 RPM) is electronic via a button on the chassis, more convenient than manually moving the belt.
How it actually sounds
According to Hi-Fi Choice (UK), the T1 EVO handles a wide range of music in a balanced way, with a natural, unexaggerated sound. They note that when directly compared with more expensive tables, there are limitations in bass extension and fine detail — but these differences are rarely noticeable in everyday listening.
Audio outlet Darkside Vinyl found the bundled Ortofon OM10 to exceed entry-level expectations, delivering a warm, clear sound that gives familiar records a fresh feel. The belt-drive design contributes to a nuanced, textured presentation.
Who is it for?
The T1 EVO is for first-time vinyl listeners who don't want to fuss with setup. Its philosophy is simple: solid materials and pre-aligned settings so you focus on the music, not the gear.
If your amplifier has a phono input, the T1 EVO is ready to go. If not, you'll need an MM phono stage.
Upgrade path
The T1 EVO's biggest advantage is a clear upgrade path. You can later swap the cartridge (e.g. to Ortofon 2M Red), add a better phono stage, and gradually improve the system — without buying a higher-end deck upfront.
